Jeremie Imbus How Do I Train for Speed?

As of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China the following are the record for the 100m dash for men and women: Usain Bolt 9.69 secs. and Florence Griffith-Joyner 10.62 secs.  Most people consider the winner of the 100m dash to be the outright fastest person alive.  In putting together a program to develop speed, I would want to know what is the denominator that accounts for the 1 second difference?

Flexibility?  Probably not.

Mechanics?  Not likely, I would assume men and…

Jeremie Imbus Is strength training a good idea for my 5-8th grader?

With the introduction of our 5-7th grade program I though it would be a good idea to bring back up a topic I brought up in the past; is it a good idea to get my child involved in a sports training program?  Here is a link to a position statement by the National Strength and Conditioning Association on Youth Resistance Training that answers that question in the affirmative …

Jeremie Imbus Getting ready the right way

As winter break approaches I think everyone's attention starts turning towards preparing for softball and baseball season.  That means being ready to take swings, throw, field, and run.  It is important to make sure your body is prepared to handle this sport specific type of activity to avoid overuse injuries and be at you best.  Try to break away from the old model of running long distance, doing endless crunches, and being afraid to incorporate true strength training exercises.…

We have grown and taken shape with the addition of former Major Leaguer Brandon Berger taken over the hitting and becoming the BEST hitting instructor in the area…

Jeremie Imbus In-Season Training

Just because the season has started does not mean this is the time to forget about your strength and conditioning program.  Think about all the hard work you put in this off-season, you don't want to lose all those gains do you?  The effects of detraining can start as soon as 2 weeks, and these include decreased conditioning levels, loss of flexibility, and loss of peak strength.

Instead of ditching the workout program you have been on, adjust by decreasing your workload to account…

High School Baseball Speed & Power

Jeremie Imbus Pitchers Camp

High School pitchers, be on the lookout for a pitcher's camp we will have coming up At The Yard in the beginning of January. It is going to be a 2 day camp and will cover strength and conditioning as well as skill work. This is truly a chance to experience what a professional pitcher goes through daily in his pre-game work (this kind of instruction is why we get to the ballpark at 2:00 for a 7:00 game).

On the strength and conditioning side we are going to cover all the key aspects of what… Continue

Chris Hook Games vs Practice - Are you working on your game?

BY: Ed Smith SportsWorx

ed.smith@sportsworx.com

While working a baseball showcase I had the opportunity to listen to an interesting presentation given by Coach Jim Zerilla, a former Division 1 baseball coach at the University of Louisville .

Coach Zerilla was doing a great job covering many of the aspects of the recruiting process. He touched upon the importance of grades, how to interview coaches, what to look for in a college baseball program and self evaluation to find… Continue
