You always want to prepare yourself mentally and physically for competition and training. This means a proper warmup. Always start with a general warm-up and move to a more active, sport specific one. Your general warm-up increases your heart rate and body temperature, and improves your respiratory efficiency. A light jog or jump rope, followed by leg swings and core twisting and bending gets this done. After this its time to lengthen your muscle tissue, increase the range of motion in the joints, and excite the nervous system. This means drills such as walking lunges, butt kicks, high knees, shuffles, and arm swings.
A good warm up reduces injury and improves the performance of the skill work that follows. Now your ready for your practice or game!
